Indigenous Travel Grants to Support Moose Conservation - 9th International Moose Symposium
Part of the success of the 55th North American Moose Conference and Workshop in 2023 was a result of the direct participation and support from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Likewise, the ½ day workshop “Multinational and Indigenous Co-Stewardship of North American Moose” presented an opportunity for all conference participants to learn more about co-stewardship of moose and other wildlife in North America. In partnership with the National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation (NPLSF), we offered 4 travel grants to the 56th North American Moose Conference and Workshop in Midway, Utah in 2024.
To foster continued progress towards co-stewardship of moose, 2 travel grants of up to $2,000 USD each will be available to support attendance by indigenous students or tribal employees at the upcoming 9th International Moose Symposium in Östersund, Sweden, June 23-27, 2025. These grants are limited to individuals from North America to attend the conference in Sweden. It is expected that employers or sponsors of the applicants will also assist with travel costs, as needed. Expenses can be used for registration, lodging, airfare, car rental, parking, or food. Payment will be made for travel-related expenses, documented by receipts, shortly after the symposium, by the National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation.
Deadline for travel grant submission is March 31, 2025. This is the same deadline for abstract submission to the 9th IMS (https://moosesymposium2025.se/abstract/). Preference for travel grants will be given to those who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the conference, but is not required to apply. We will notify travel grant recipients in April.
